Plaid is EVERYWHERE right now, and for good reason! It's a classic pattern that comes in a multitude of colors and fabrics, and is so much fun to layer and print mix! I've recently been asked (and have been pondering) how to make my plaid shirts look professional, since the print can become very lumberjack-esque if you're not careful. In the first look, I toned down the plaid print by layering it under my favorite lace shirt. This option gives just a few pops of plaid without being overwhelming. I paired the layered tops with pants, which I have been gravitating towards during this pediatric rotation. There is something about crouching down on a kids level that just has me reaching for pants over skirts this month... :)

The second look was an unexpected addition to this post. I recently received this scarf from Nepali by TDM designs and instantly fell in love! (1) It's a scarf (2) It's polka dotted (3) The colors are perfect for fall and happen to compliment my plaid shirt perfectly! And while I may be straying away from skirts for this month, I love how the mustard of this pencil skirt ties in the scarf with the subtle stripes in the plaid.

Do you wear your plaid to work? How do you incorporate it into your professional looks? Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful weekend!

  1. I love love love the plaid with the yellow pencil skirt! Such a classy combo!

  2. Plaid with polka dots! Fabulous!! Susan

  3. I love the lace shirt over the plaid! I always reach for a sweater or cardi to layer over my button-ups, plaid included, for work (probably because of how cold I always am), but I LOVE the option of laying something other than a sweater over it. Super cute! Hope you are enjoying your peds rotation and I definitely don't blame you for reaching for pants over skirts for the next month ;-)
