The Polka Dot Tee: Three Ways

For those of you that do not follow me on Instagram, this polka dot tee is kind of a big deal. I found it at Forever 21 a few months ago for $8.80, and knew it would be an instant classic in my closet - and the perfect backdrop for my statement necklaces!

It became wildly popular among the IG fashionistas in no time, and I even picked extras up in the store and sent them to two of my friends, Katelin of My Wardrobe Staples and Blanca (@beulloa on IG)!! So it was a no brainer with Katelin asked Whitley of Simply Whit in a Sequined Life and I to collaborate with her, and show our followers three ways to style this adorable tee! Be sure to stop by their blogs and give them some love!!

I am a big proponent of dressing up tees to make them more office-friendly. I paired my polka dot tee with a pencil skirt and patent leather flats for a polished look that can be worn in a more conservative office:

Chevron + Coral

Happy Wednesday, fashionistas! I am getting used to the slower pace of Family Medicine - and I certainly don't hate it!! It's so different from the ER, but not a bad different. I am working in a clinic that is part of our Catholic hospital...there are three doctors, two medical assistants and two receptionists there and they have already made me feel as if I am part of the family.

I got a chance to get to know one of the receptionists a little better today, and she told me that she often prays with her patients. For those of you that don't know, I was brought up in a Christian home, and my dad owned a Christian-based, private family practice for many years. It made me feel so comfortable and at peace to know that I am surrounded by a group of Christ-following people this month!

Besides being Christian-based, the clinic that I am at this month is fairly casual. One of the doctors even wears open toe sandals! Although I will not be exposing my toes anytime soon (I desperately need a pedicure!), I am looking forward to working some colored jeans into rotation as the weather continues to cool off!

Jeans: J.Crew Factory
Black Necklace: old, boutique find

Thanks for reading! Check back on Friday for a polka-dotted collaboration that I'm working on with Whitley and Katelin!

The Weekly Wardrobe: August 25

I'M BACK!! What a whirlwind month! Thanks to everyone who has stuck around - and for all of your kind and supportive words as I spent this past month in my ER rotation. I was blessed to have been placed at a community hospital about 30 minutes from where I live. Every single person I worked with was so kind and helpful, and I know that I will maintain some of the friendships that I made during my time with each of them! (If you're reading: Hi Carol, Lisa, Courtney, Laura, etc.!!)

In my short time in the emergency room, I really grew to love it! Maybe it was the hospital, or maybe it was the quick pace and variety of things that I got to see, but I thoroughly enjoyed my rotation! My only complaint was the 60-70 hour work weeks that I was putting in (eesh!) haha I am looking forward to a more normal 9-5 schedule in Family Practice, starting today!!

Here are a few snapshots of my life over the past few weeks:
(L) I am so excited to be collaborating with Dansko this month - how fun are these clogs?!
(R) This sparkly elastic became a bunch of headbands to spice up my bland scrubs!

Casual Friday: Sequin Date Night

Date night is probably my favorite night of the week. My main squeeze is out of town for work on most weeks, and school work keeps me super busy, so the weekends are often reserved for "us" time. We could be doing absolutely nothing and I would be happy just to be in the same place as him. That being said, it is also fun to get all gussied up for a night out!

I am a huge fan of sequins! While I often follow the "less-is-more" rule with things that are super sparkly, this top definitely has me breaking my own mold (haha)! This top is so fabulous, and I love the mix of blue, orange and pink sequins...I can easily see this piece being layered for fall. I paired such a sparkly top with super dark jeans (side note: just discovered that Old Navy makes extended lengths, and their jeans are about $30 a pair!! SCORE!), wedges and one of my favorite necklaces from Luxe Craving.

Shirt: J.Crew
Jeans: Old Navy
Wedges: Target
Necklace: Luxe Craving
Bracelet: gift
Watch: eBay
Clutch: c/o Shop Dandy

Also in the spotlight this week is my new Color Dipped Canvas Clutch from Shop Dandy. I won it in an Instagram giveaway, and let me tell you, it is the most amazing piece! The clutch perfectly houses my wallet, gum, blotting sheets, keys, phone and chapstick, and IT IS MONOGRAMMED. Woot! I chose gray so that it would go with pretty much everything, but the clutch comes in a variety of color combos and is only $25! Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!

Monochromatic Mint

I'm sure many of you can relate to the rush of excitement that you feel when you score a really, REALLY good deal! That was definitely the case with this mint sheath dress from Banana Republic. It's no secret that mint green is a hot hue right now, and it's one of my personal favorites! I happened to stumble upon this piece a few months was on the clearance rack, it was in my size, and I loved the classic lines that it had, so I tried it on. Although it was not a NEED, I knew that this dress would provide a skeleton for many outfits!

I took it up to the register, thinking that it would be about $30 after tax and discounts. The manager who rang me up noticed a snag in the hem and decided to give it to me for an additional 50% off - SCORE!! And what an unexpected surprise! Needless to say, I was thrilled to bring this beauty home! This is how I would wear the dress to work, church, etc. but I am planning to pair it with some denim super soon...stay tuned!

Even the back is fabulous!!

Blog Updates

Hey everyone! I apologize for the lack of posts this week...I have worked nearly 70 hours! School needs to come first, but I did take some time this morning to make some updates to the site:

- In the navigation bar, you can now find the "Outfits" tab, which further divides into the categories of Dresses, Pants, Skirts and Shorts. Every outfit that I have ever posted on Instagram and the blog is now collected in one place! Take a peek, if you haven't already!
(HUGE thank you to my friend and blog designer, Tiffany, for her help in this process!!)

- Each outfit is now "pinned" to my Pinterest account. Feel free to pin and repin as much as your heart desires!

- I am SO excited about some upcoming collaborations!! I have a feeling those of you that are jewelry lovers and Dansko fans will want to keep your eyes peeled...*wink wink*!

Lastly, and most importantly, I want to thank EACH AND EVERY ONE of you that have left comments, send me emails/texts/voice messages with encouraging words and feedback. I am incredibly grateful for my friends and family (old and new!), and want you to know that your kindness and support has not gone unnoticed! You make the stressful process of clinicals and school worthwhile!

On that note, I pray that you all have a beautiful weekend! GO STEELERS!!

The Weekly Wardrobe: August 4

Happy Monday! Can you believe that it's AUGUST?! This summer and my rotations are flying by. I'm already done with week one of ER, two and a half more to go. It's hard to believe that one year from now, I could be a licensed Physician Assistant. I am just a hop, skip, and a jump away from having those three coveted letters (PA-C) after my name!

This week has posed a new wardrobe challenge: how to spice up my scrubs! Although statement necklaces and arm parties don't really have a place in the emergency room, I have had fun accessorizing with earrings, fun shoes, and pretty hair styles! So far I have loved my ER experience...I have seen TONS of patients with complaints ranging from sore throats and ear aches to broken bones and lacerations. There is something new and different with every passing moment, and I like the challenge of having to constantly be on my toes!

Here is a quick review of the week in pictures!

The Patient-Proof Manicure

Happy Friday, chicas! This week has FLOWN by and I feel all topsy-turvy since I have been working night shift in the ER. Stay tuned for some fun stories about that!

I have loved nail polish for as long as I can remember, and have accrued quite the collection over the years. Special thanks to my friend and hair stylist, Nikki, for enabling me (lol)! Choosing the manicure color of the week is as exciting as outfit planning in my opinion! And a polished (no pun intended!), patent-leather mani can pull together an entire look.

The Collection! In rainbow order, of course! :)
One thing that I have struggled with during my transition from classroom to clinic is the professionalism of certain colors. Do colors such as mint green, yellow and purple have a place in the conservative working world? Or should "less is more" reign supreme in the case of color palette? I posed this question on Instagram a little while back, and was surprised to find that many of my mentors and colleagues believe that ANY color is appropriate for the office, so long as nails are well-kept and chip-free. That being said, I was advised to stay away from flashy glitters or patterns.

Here are some of my favorite solid manicures:
Clockwise from top left: OPI Alpine Snow, Orly Choreographed Chaos,
Orly Cotton Candy, Orly Beach Cruiser
I'm also a huge fan of "party nails" (painting one or more fingers in a different color than the rest), glitters, tape designs, and other nail art...when I have the time!
Clockwise from top left: OPI Rumple's Wiggin' + Orly Peaceful Opposition, Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet + L'Oreal Not a Cloud in Sight, Orly Liquid Vinyl + OPI Barefoot in Barcelona, OPI Pink Me I'm Good over OPI Strawberry Margarita
Besides choosing a professional-approved nail color, I also want my manicure to LAST. The budget limitations of being in grad school do allow for me to get a gel manicure every few weeks. My color preference changes more frequently than that anyways!! A few months ago, I stumbled across Emily Gemma's DIY Gel Manicure. She is the wife of a medical student, and I happen to think her penny-pinching method of duplicating a salon quality manicure is GENIUS!! Below are the steps that I have been using since I first read Emily's post on her blog, The Sweetest Thing. Let me know what you think, and please take a minute to visit Emily's adorable page!

What you will need:
- Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat (available at Sally Beauty Supply
- nail polish color of choice
- Out The Door Top Coat (also available at Sally Beauty Supply)

- Start by removing any nail polish from the nail, and using a four-way nail buffer block. This prepares the nail bed and smooths out any unsightly ridges.
- Wash hands with soap and water to remove filing residue.
- Apply a coat of Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat, and allow it to dry for 2-4 minutes. Repeat.
- Apply a layer of color and let dry for 4 minutes.
- Apply another layer of Gelous and let dry for 4 minutes.
- Apply another layer of color and allow to dry for 2-4 minutes.
- Finish off with a layer of Out The Door Top Coat, and ENJOY!!

A few tips and tricks are to make sure that your nails and hands are moisturized. I love Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle smells amazing and has transformed my hands and cuticles! If you struggle with the actual painting process, here is a great tutorial that is similar to how I paint my own nails.

My hands are subjected to constant hand washing, hand sanitizer, and rubber gloves, and this manicure method allows my nails to stay beautiful for at least a week! I hope that you will give it a try, and let me know what you think!
